Room 5: SOUND EXHIBITION
1960 is referred to as the Year of Africa because of a series of events that took place during the year—mainly the independence of seventeen African nations—that highlighted the growing Pan-African sentiments in the continent. The years that followed, many other countries got their independence, with Namibia being the last to gain independence from South Africa on 21 March 1990. The wave of independence was crowned by the celebratory sounds of brass bands, against a backdrop of powerful acapella/choral sounds that powered the natives through the struggle. Immerse yourself to the sounds of struggle and hope, experience the contrast of emotions that engulfed the continent then and now.
